A 37-year-old man is undergoing mandatory 21-day quarantine in Jomotshangkha Dungkhag under Samdrup Jongkhar for breaching COVID-19 protocol along the border.

Border patrolling team caught the man with 80 packets of chewing tobacco at around 9 pm on November 15. He allegedly crossed the border to purchase the tobacco products. He, however, tested negative for COVID-19 on the antigen test.

After the quarantine period, he will be charged for smuggling of tobacco products and breaching public order and tranquillity.

Meanwhile, Jomotshangkha Dungkhag COVID-19 task force plans to continue facilitating the supply of tobacco products to the public to avoid people crossing the border.
