A 24-year-old man sentenced to 18 months in prison for attempt to rape

A 24-year-old man from Chhudzomsa (Dovan) village under Chhudzom Gewog in Sarpang was sentenced to one year and six months in prison on 7th of this month by the Sarpang District Court after he was found guilty of an attempt to rape a 19-year-old married woman. 

The convict was also asked to pay compensation of Nu. 10,000 to the victim.

According to the judgement, the convict attempted to rape the victim who was looking after her cattle in the forest. The incident happened in March this year. The victim informed about it to the village Tshogpa, who took the matter to the gewog office and then to the police. Following the reports, Sarpang Police arrested the convict on 29th of March this year.

The convict is the husband of the victim’s elder sister.
