A 21-year old man from Samdrup Jongkhar is under custody for alleged involuntary manslaughter on the night of Sunday, in Trongsa.

The deceased, who was also 21 years old, and the accused were serving as security personnel in one of the foreign construction companies at the Mangdehhu Hydropower Project Authority in Trongsa.

According to the preliminary investigation report, the incident occurred at around 9 pm on the night of 27th September at their quarter. It was learnt that they were both under the influence of alcohol when the fight broke out because of a recharge data package. According to a source, the victim tried to allegedly overpower the accused when he found out his mobile phone was not recharged by the suspect. However, the accused allegedly kicked and pushed the victim who fell to his death. The police found a cut on the back of the head and on the neck of the deceased.

According to police, when the suspect found out that the victim was not breathing, he dumped the body about 25 metres away from the site of the incident. He also told two expatriate workers about the incident and threatened them not to reveal it. However, they informed the police and the manhunt began. The accused hid in the campus that night and took off the next day in a bus, and was arrested from the Hongtsho checkpoint.

The Police are still investigating the case.
