His Majesty The King granted Land Kidu to 9,628 beneficiaries in Samtse Dzongkhag today.

The beneficiaries, from all 15 gewogs of Samtse received a total of 1,261.027 acres of land as Kidu.

Addressing the Kidu beneficiaries, His Majesty reminded the people of the importance of land. His Majesty also advised the people to make good use of the land that was being granted to them.

Samtse is the 17th dzongkhag to receive Land Kidu in the nationwide exercise to resolve all land issues. His Majesty also assured the people that once this round of Land Kidu is complete in all the 20 districts, the next round would commence to ensure that whatever land issues that still remain would continue to be resolved.

“I on behalf of all the people here would like to thank His Majesty for visiting us and granting Land Kidu. We remain grateful to His Majesty for coming all the way from Thimphu,” said Nima Drukpa, the Chairperson of Samtse Dzongkhag Tshogdu.

Other local leaders also expressed their utmost gratitude to His Majesty The King for granting Land Kidu. “We are grateful that His Majesty visited us and granted Land Kidu. Until now people have been living with no Lag Thram and now they are happy that their dreams of having a house will be fulfilled,” said the Gup of Tashichhoeling Gewog, Sameer Giri.

Hundreds of people from every nook and corner of the district gathered to meet His Majesty. His Majesty also hosted Tokha to the people.

Later in the evening, His Majesty granted an Audience to the dzongkhag officials, Royal Bhutan Police, and Royal Bhutan Army officers and DeSuups.

In 2007, His Majesty The King commanded National Land Commission to carry out a comprehensive nationwide cadastral resurvey. As per the Royal Command, the National Land Commission carried out the National Cadastral Resurvey Programme (NCRP) from June 2008 till December 2013. The programme is to resolve all land issues, strengthen land tenure system and security of ownership, and to establish accurate, reliable and multipurpose land information system. The initiative is also intended to enhance land administration services and promote good governance.

Until today, His Majesty granted 133,287.765 acres of land as Kidu to 1,23,265 people in the country.
