Woman detained for battering minor

The Women and Child Protection Unit of the Royal Bhutan Police has detained a woman for battering a minor.

The minor who is between eight and 10 years of age was working as a baby sitter with the woman.

According to the medical report, the minor has sustained injuries on the face.

Sources said the marks on the face of the victim were supposedly left by a belt.

The police after rescuing the minor from Changangkha, handed her over to RENEW to be kept in a safe shelter.

The detainee who is from Gelephu runs a saloon in the town.

Police are trying to find the victim’s parents and hand her over to them.

Police records show that about 315 children were battered last year alone.
