The people of Zhemgang may not have to wait long to see their dream of having a college in their dzongkhag come true. If the discussions held in the National Assembly today are anything to go by, Zhemgang could have a college in the 12th Five Year Plan, the first in the dzongkhag.

At the National Assembly today, it was decided that the government will explore possibilities to open a new college in Zhemgang. The matter cropped up as the house held discussions on dzongkhag’s proposal for upgradation of Zhemgang Central School to a college.

The government will review the dzongkhag’s proposal and sit for a discussion with the dzongkhag officials to begin preparatory works to start the college in 12th Five Year Plan.

While most of the members supported the idea of opening a college, there were apprehensions over upgrading the central school.

The Education Minister said while a college is necessary, upgrading the central school to a college would compromise the benefits the Dzongkhag derives from having a central school.

The house decided the matter requires more consultations based on which a decision would be reached on whether to open a new college or upgrade the central school to a college.

People of Zhemgang, in its last Dzongkhag Tshogdu in February, requested for a college in the Dzongkhag.
