Two apprehended in counterfeit currency caseGelegphu Police have detained two men, one Bhutanese and the other one of Indian origin for allegedly trying to exchange Bhutanese currency with counterfeit Indian currency. They were apprehended from the border gate, yesterday.

The 58-year-old man from Trashigang had supposedly asked his Indian counterpart to be the middleman. He is said to have asked the Indian man to exchange fake Indian currency amounting to Rs 9,500 with Bhutanese currency. In return the Bhutanese had promised a commission.

The Bhutanese man confessed that the counterfeit notes were brought in from Indian town of Jaigoan, according to his statement to the Police.

Police inspected his hotel room and found counterfeit Indian currency amounting to Rs 1,000. The man had also paid the hotel bills using fake currency.

The police recovered a total of Rs 11,500 counterfeit Indian rupee from the man. The case will be forwarded to the court after the investigations.
