Annual National Design competition held in Thimphu

Annual National Design competition held in Thimphu-The 14thAnnual National Design competition for kira, gho and embroidery was organised in the capital, today. Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck gave away prizes to the winners. There were about 50 participants from throughout the country.

National Design competition is a platform given to the Bhutanese weavers and embroiders to showcase their skills and earn due recognition at national level. This is expected to preserve, promote and develop traditional textile arts.

A panel of six judges declared the winners based on finishing, innovation and intricacy of the designs.

The winners are Thinley Zangmo for kira, Kinga Zangmo for gho and Pema Dorji for embroidery.

Except for Kinga Zangmo, the two other winners have been receiving award for the past few years. They were given Nu.50,000 each with a certificate.

All the winners took about a year to finish their product.

Ten meritorious awards of Nu.10,000 were also given to various participants for their significant contribution.

All the winning designs along with various others are at display in the Textile Academy.
