Separate desk created to handle issues related to women and children-GElegphuAny issues related to women and children under 18 years in the dzongkhag will be looked after by a separate desk under the Gelegphu Police. The desk was created on Monday.

During the launch, the assistant superintendent of Police said, many cases go unreported because of social stigma and discrimination.

Now that a separate desk has been created, the number of cases registered is expected to go up. It will also help maintain proper data.

At the moment, Gelegphu police station has separate data only for rape and domestic violence. Data for children coming in conflict with the law is also not available as it has been merged with other crime.

The desk will be upgraded into a unit depending on the need and a separate detention centre will also be established.
