PM+Honorary Doctorate+CatholicUniversity+Louvaine-BelgiumThe former Prime Minister, Jigmi Y. Thinley has been conferred Honorary Doctorate by one of the oldest universities in Europe, the Catholic University in Louvain, Belgium.

He was awarded Honorary Doctorate for the efforts and sharing with the world the concept of Gross National Happiness conceived by His Majesty the fourth Druk Gyalpo. It was also for his contribution to the international discourse and endeavour to build a new development paradigm.

Jigmi Y Thinley was invited by the president of the Senate of the Belgian Parliament yesterday, to hold a meeting with the senate working group on the development of a new and more reliable set of indicators to measure the quality of life, well-being and happiness of the Belgian society.

They thanked Jigmi Y. Thinley for the role in setting into motion an international debate on the subject and appreciated Bhutan for being the beacon to a more sustainable and happy human society.

Meanwhile, the Belgian Parliament yesterday voted on the new set of indicators that are inspired by and follows the example set by Bhutan.

They expect the bill to be successfully enacted.
