The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed appreciation for Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’s (DPT) undertaking to stop negative campaigning. The party has also apologised for upsetting and confusing people, ‘while clarifying doubts raised by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa’. PDP has also pledged to campaign in the most positive and civil manner possible.
PDP’s President, Tshering Tobgay, is in Trashigang, today. At a press conference in Kanglung, Jigme Zangpo, as the party’s spokesperson expressed appreciation towards Druk Phuensum Tshogpa and shared PDP’s willingness to conduct the remaining days of campaigning in a manner that will make Bhutanese proud.
“PDP would like to offer our appreciation to DPT members, and support towards yesterday’s public statement. To live up to the vision of His Majesty the King, PDP has always worked towards laying a firm foundation for democracy. We have shared that there is no need to criticise each other during party campaigns. This is because at the end, it is not about PDP and DPT, but all of us, and if we can do that, it simply shows that democracy in our country is thriving”, Jigme Zangpo shared.
Jigme Zangpo also said PDP is “deeply concerned” about the revision of the LPG and kerosene prices, and that if PDP forms the government, the party will resolve the issue with the Indian government within the first month of taking office.
The PDP has, however, shared that it does not understand why all the former DPT ministers had to congregate in Thimphu regarding the removal of subsidies. “What PDP and its members understand is that both PDP and DPT do not have any executive authority. It is the responsibility of the interim government to run the government. Therefore, the meeting of the ex-ministers, and their public statements have further confused the people. DPT is talking about solving the problem but it is not their responsibility”, Jigme Zangpo explained.
It was underscored that the PDP manifesto has the Bhutan-India relationship as the cornerstone of Bhutan’s foreign policy.
