DPT-PDP-in-General-Round-2013Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are the two parties that will form the parliament following the primary round of elections, yesterday. The Election Commission of Bhutan, officially, declared the results, this morning.

Dasho Kunzang Wangdi, the Chief Election Commissioner, declared the results of the primary round of the National Assembly elections.

Druk Chirwang Tshogpa secured a total of 12,457 votes and Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa-  35,962 votes. DPT and the PDP go through to the General round of elections with 93,949 votes and 68,650 votes, respectively.

A total of 37,943 postal ballots were accepted in the primary round. Out of 381,790 registered voters, 211,018 voted, yesterday. The voter turnout during the primary round comes to just over 55 percent.

Dasho Kunzang Wangdi also said the two parties will have to submit their lists of candidates contesting in the general round of the National Assembly elections by June 11.

He further shared that only the candidates whose names are reflected in the letters of intent submitted by the four parties will be allowed to contest in the general round.

Also, postal voters who received their postal ballots this time will not have to apply for postal ballots for the general round. But those whose applications were rejected will have to submit reapplications.
