Putting Bhutan’s hospitality services before a regional audience, seven hotels will represent the country at the 10th South Asian Travel Awards in the Maldives next week. The event will offer an opportunity to connect with regional tourism businesses and draw attention to one of Bhutan’s key economic sectors.
The invitation to the hotels, ranging from three to five stars, follows evaluations in June by an international jury of experts for the Awards. According to the programme’s chair in Bhutan, Kunzang Thinley, 21 hotels and resorts were assessed.
He said Bhutan’s participation could help Bhutanese hotels to compare and connect to improve hospitality services, and introduce visitors to Bhutanese culture.
“We are excited because this platform will help us a lot, particularly in the hospitality sector. We will have the opportunity to meet and connect with professionals from the industry and learn from their experiences. It will also give us a platform to interact and gain practical experience. It can help increase the visibility of hotels in Bhutan.”
This is Bhutan’s second time participating in the Awards. Last year, the country was awarded the Best Leading Heritage Destination. The participating hotels also earned multiple accolades, covering categories ranging from top heritage to spa and wellness hotels.
The Awards cover tourism and hospitality businesses in Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
