For residents of Chapchha Gewog in Chhukha, accessing certain public services can mean extra travel and longer waiting times. The Chapcha Gup said the distance between the Renewable Natural Resources Centre and the Gewog office is affecting service delivery and raised the concern during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu.
For residents of Chapchha Gewog, getting different services often means travelling between two locations.
The Renewable Natural Resources Centre is more than five kilometres from the gewog office. It is making it inconvenient for people who need to visit both places.
The Dzongkhag Tshogdu discussed the issue recently. While RNR services are meant to be easily accessible to farmers, the distance has become a concern for residents.
Chapchha Gup Phub Sithup said, “In other gewogs, people can usually get their work done within a day because the offices are located together. But people here, we are facing difficulties because of the distance. People have been requesting that the offices be brought together in one location. Therefore, I would like to request the house to construct and relocate the RNR Centre near the Gewog office. I would also like to seek support for the construction.”
“It is challenging for us because we have to travel from one place to another to get our work done. Therefore, people are requesting that the offices be located in the same place so that it is more convenient for us to access the services from one location,” said Changlo, a resident.
However, relocating the centre will not happen immediately.
Officials said there is no budget to construct new infrastructure near the Gewog Office this fiscal year.
The Dzongda said the centre could be relocated closer to the gewog office from the next fiscal year.
The Gup has been asked to submit a formal proposal to the District Administration for consideration.
