Going by the latest crime statistics from the Police, major urban centres continue to account for the highest number of reported crimes. Police stations across Thimphu lead the overall cases, and Phuentsholing recorded the most drug-related offences during the first half of this year.
The Central Thimphu Police Station recorded the highest number of crime cases in the country during the first half of this year, with nearly 230 cases out of a total of 1,270 reported nationwide.
The North Thimphu Police Station followed with close to 160 cases, while the South Thimphu Police Station recorded more than 140 cases. Gelephu and Paro police stations reported 110 and 100 cases, respectively. Crime cases in other districts remained at 100.
In drug-related offences, the Phuentsholing Police Station recorded the highest number of cases, with around 250 out of a total of over 700 cases reported during the period. The Narcotic Drugs and Law Enforcement Unit in Thimphu followed with close to 200 cases. Paro and Gelephu police stations reported nearly 40 cases each. The remaining police stations recorded between one and 35 drug-related cases.
Of the 46 cybercrime cases reported nationwide, the Central Thimphu Police Station recorded the highest number, with 17 cases.
Meanwhile, Monggar recorded the highest number of Chorten and Lhakhang-related cases, with seven out of over 30 cases reported during the period.
In domestic violence cases, the North Thimphu Police Station reported the highest number, with nearly 80 cases. The Central Thimphu Police Station followed with over 70 cases, while the South Thimphu Police Station recorded 45 cases. Close to 440 domestic violence cases were reported during the first half of the year.
Of the close to 70 sexual offence cases reported nationwide, the South Thimphu Police Station recorded the highest number, with nine cases. Gelephu and North Thimphu police stations followed with six cases each.
The Narcotic Drugs and Law Enforcement Unit recorded the highest number of cases involving children in conflict with the law, with 28 cases. Phuntshogling and South Thimphu police stations reported 20 and 15 cases, respectively. Nearly 160 cases involving children in conflict with the law were recorded during the first half of the year.
Of the 50 suicide cases reported in the first half of this year, Tsirang recorded the highest number, with five cases. Paro followed with four cases. The Central Thimphu, South Thimphu, and Dorokha police stations reported three cases each.
