Bhutan is a step closer to offering advanced fertility treatment at home. The Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority has partnered with a leading hospital in Singapore to establish the country’s first in-vitro fertilisation, or IVF, centre in Gelephu. IVF, or in-vitro fertilisation, is a treatment that helps couples who are unable to have children naturally.
As per the news release issued yesterday, the agreement was signed virtually between Gelephu Mindfulness City Governor Dasho Dr Lotay Tshering and the Chief Executive Officer of KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore recently.
Under the partnership, the Singapore hospital will provide technical support to help set up the centre. This includes training doctors, nurses and laboratory specialists, advising on the design of the facility, and helping develop treatment procedures that meet international standards.
KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is one of Asia’s largest women’s and children’s hospitals and operates Singapore’s largest IVF centre.
The Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, Dasho Dr Lotay Tshering, said the partnership reflects His Majesty’s deep understanding of the advances in longevity and regenerative medicine. He added that working with KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital will help Bhutan provide fertility services that meet international standards.
The Singapore hospital will provide its expertise free of charge. Meanwhile, the Gelephu Mindfulness City Authority will be responsible for selecting healthcare professionals for training, overseeing the construction of the centre, and managing its implementation.
The partnership builds on the health cooperation agreement signed between Bhutan and Singapore last year. Once operational, the IVF centre is expected to improve access to advanced fertility treatment in Bhutan and support Gelephu Mindfulness City’s vision of becoming a regional hub for quality healthcare.
