Dorji Lopen confers dhar to three newly appointed kudrungs

Coinciding with the Traditional Day of Offering and in keeping with monastic tradition, the Dorji Lopen of the Central Monastic conferred dhar to the three newly appointed kudrungs, or discipline heads, of the Zhung Dratshang today. They are the Kudrung Paro, Kudrung Shar of Wangdue and Kudrung Tshochhen for Thimphu.

The new Kudrung of Paro is 44-year-old Tenzin from Paro. He served as a Dodam of Yarzhug in Punakha prior to his present post. He became a monk at the age of eight and undertook higher Buddhist Studies at Lekshed Jungney Shedra. He completed his three-year retreat from Pangkarpo Meditation Centre in Punakha.

And 39-year-old Kuencho Wangdi from Lingmukha in Punakha is the new Kudrung Shar. Prior to his present post, he was a mask dance instructor at Pungthim Dratshang. He became a monk at the age of seven and graduated from Lekshed Jungney Shedra. He has received meditation instructions from the Dorji Lopen and undertook retreat at Chizhi Goenpa Meditation Centre in Thimphu.

39-year-old Sonam Rinchen from Lobesa in Punakha has been appointed as the new Kudrung Tshochhen. Prior to his present post, he served as a Lhungzinpa, master of the Alms Bowl. He joined Pungthim Dratshang at the age of eleven and graduated from Lekshed Jungney Shedra. He completed his three-year retreat from Pangkarpo Retreat Centre in Punakha.
