Bhutan’s final push to stay in the Men’s T20 International Bilateral Series fell short as Bahrain claimed a 35-run victory in Gelephu today. The loss marks Bhutan’s third straight defeat and secures the series victory for Bahrain.
Bhutan entered the contest under pressure, having lost the first two matches. Winning the toss, the home team opted to field, hoping to turn the series around.
But Bahrain capitalised early, punishing loose deliveries and building strong partnerships. Bhutan struggled in the field, missing several catching opportunities that could have changed the game’s momentum.
Despite managing occasional breakthroughs, the bowlers were unable to contain Bahrain’s steady scoring. By the end of 20 overs, Bahrain posted a competitive total of 160 for 4.
In the run chase, Bhutan once again faced early setbacks. Chasing 161, the top order collapsed under disciplined Bahraini bowling, losing quick wickets and failing to settle at the crease.
A promising partnership between Tshering Tashi and Rangjung Mikyo Dorji briefly revived hopes for the home crowd, but the resistance was short-lived.
Bhutan ultimately finished at 125 for 9, falling 35 runs short.
“We only had ten days of camp to prepare for this series, and today was the third match. We lost to a very good team; Bahrain are 54 ranks ahead of us. But seeing the effort put in by the boys, we could see improvements every day. We now look forward to our upcoming matches against Myanmar and hope to do well against them,” said Kumar Subba, Head Coach, Bhutan Cricket.
Despite Bahrain sealing the series, both teams will continue with the scheduled fixtures. The fourth match will be played tomorrow.
As Bahrain celebrate a deserving series victory, Bhutan are left to reflect on missed opportunities and areas for improvement. With more international fixtures ahead, including the match tomorrow, the home team now sets its sights on rebuilding confidence and momentum.
