A key milestone in the construction of the new Sarpang Dzong was reached today with the installation of the Sertog on the Kuenrey block. The ceremony marks the project’s transition into its final stage, with nearly 90 per cent of the work now complete.

The Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City, Dr Lotay Tshering, graced the installation ceremony, which was presided over by the Lam Neten of Sarpang Rabdey.

Project officials say most of the critical works are complete, including office partitions, electrical and network systems, and fire safety installations. Structural and architectural components are also nearing completion, with finishing touches in progress.

“The construction has been ongoing for more than seven years now. Kuenrey block has been the last block to install the Sertog. We have completed around 90 per cent of the dzong construction; the remaining works are to install the statues in the lhakhang and site development work outside the dzong area,” said   Sangay Kinga, Project Manager, Sarpang Dzong Construction Project.

Seven years into construction, the project has consumed a little over Nu 1bn of the total budget of Nu 1.1bn. The dzong is being built on the same 11-acre area where the old structure once stood. Though originally scheduled for completion in 2023, the deadline was extended due to delays caused by the pandemic.

“We aim to complete all remaining works and hand over the dzong to both the Rabdey and the district administration at the same time. Only minor works are left in the administrative block, and we expect to finish everything within three to four months,” added Sangay Kinga, Project Manager, Sarpang Dzong Construction Project.

With the Sertog now in place, the Sarpang Dzong construction enters its concluding phase. As the project moves toward completion, the district’s new administrative and spiritual centre is on track to be ready by June next year.
