To bridge the gap between the job market and students’ skills, Gedu College of Business Studies launched an internship drive yesterday. The six months internship programme will allow students to get on job experience before they graduate.

The first batch of more than 350 students will start their internship programme from December for six months.

The internship will happen during the sixth semester of the four-year courses.

The students said that through such a programme, they can understand job requirement.

Pema Yeshi, a student said, “We will be able to apply our knowledge at work. Moreover, in future, the six month internship will benefit when we are working.”

Kinley Tshering, another student said, “We are studying right now. After that, it will help us be ready for a job. This is also a big opportunity for our juniors in future.”

The college says it will facilitate and ensure that students maintain decorum and are not exposed to workplace conflict.

The college will send out students for internship not only in the capital but across other districts and possibly, overseas.

Dalston Pung, President of Gedu College of Business Studies said, “I believe that for the students particularly before they graduate, you know, they have a sensor check in terms of what the job market truly represents. I believe inherently private sectors want to participate in economic development. That’s the whole reason why a business exists right to grow economically so, I think it gives them an avenue an opportunity to participate in developing the next generation of talents.”

Jigme Dorji, the CEO of Institute of Skills and Management Studies said, “For now, we are taking in six interns from Gedu College of Business Studies. Actually, they came up with this programme, it is a very good type of programme because this will not only help the students but it will also help the organisations to have a proper human resource, because we will not be able to know that particular candidate in a short interview. So, we have at least six months to know that particular person from the employer perspectives.”

With the launch of the internship programme, Gedu College of Business Studies aims to prepare its students for the realities of the job market.

The initiative is expected to create stronger ties between the college and industries, helping shape more skilled and job-ready workforce.
