World Bank Group executive directors reaffirm support to Bhutan

A nine-member delegation of the World Bank Group Executive Directors concluded a five-day visit to Bhutan yesterday. The visit reaffirmed the World Bank Group’s continued support for Bhutan’s development priorities. The delegation was accompanied by Mercy Tembon, World Bank Vice President and Corporate Secretary.

According to a press release from the World Bank Group During the visit, the executive directors had an audience with His Majesty The King and met with the prime minister, finance minister, senior government officials, development partners, ambassadors, and private sector representatives.

The delegation visited the National Centre for Organic Agriculture and the Cottage and Small Industries Market, which promotes Bhutanese products domestically and internationally.

In Gelephu, they visited a site for a planned project aimed at improving regional trade and connectivity.

The delegation reiterated its support for private investment, job creation, and climate resilience in Bhutan.

According to the press release,  the World Bank remains committed to helping Bhutan achieve resilient and inclusive growth as envisioned in the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan.

Starting July, the World Bank will establish a joint country office in Bhutan, led by a country manager overseeing all its branches. This move is expected to strengthen support for Bhutan’s economic and social development.
