The National Assembly adopted the Review Report of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s Annual Report 2023-2024, today. Of 41 members present in the house, 38 members agreed on the three recommendations made by the Good Governance Committee, while two members abstained and 1 voted against it.
One of the three recommendations is to conduct more public education and awareness programmes on transparency and integrity to reduce corrupt practices.
The second recommendation states that the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Election Commission should establish facilitation booths and deploy compliance officers to prevent electoral corruption.
The third recommendation is for the government to allocate adequate budget and human resources to the commission.
Some members highlighted the need to form a committee to look into the issues faced by the commission and plan a way forward.
“The formation of the committee will be discussed by the Good Governance Committee, the Secretary’s Office, along with the National Assembly and the National Council. Or, whether the Good Governance Committee should form the committee,” said Lungten Dorji, Speaker of the National Assembly.
The report will now be forwarded to the National Council.
