In an effort to support the communities of Ura Gewog in Bumthang, a community vegetable market shed was inaugurated. The Druk Nyo Foundation, a non-profit organisation, constructed the Shingnyer vegetable shed as part of their project, ‘Post-COVID Support to the Communities of Ura Gewog’. The shed is located along the east-west highway at Shingnyer.

The market shed was handed over to the Ura Gewog Administration for management.

The Bumthang dzongda and the president of an Italian Non-Governmental Organisation ASIA were present during the inauguration.

Through the Druk Nyo Foundation’s project, farmers also received greenhouses, mini power tillers, hybrid seeds, and other agricultural tools.

The project aims to enhance farm mechanisation, promote sustainable agriculture, and improve health and hygiene practices.

“For farmers, they provided different kinds of training. Today, they supported us with the construction of Shingnyer market shed costing more than our Gewog’s annual budget. They supported us until now and we hope they will continue to support us,” said Khandu Wangchuk, Ura Gup.

“Through this project, we supported our farmers with greenhouses and agricultural tools and also provided multiple trainings how to manage different houses, organic farming, and post production trainings. We also provided medical equipment to Ura PHC,” said Sonam Nyenda, Executive Director of Druk Nyo Foundation.

The Druk Nyo Foundation in partnership with the ASIA and with funding support from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy implemented the works.

The Foundation has a similar agriculture project in Monggar which is going to end in August this year.
