Chhuzom Gewog Centre road is the last Gewog Centre road to be blacktopped in Sarpang. The blacktopping work was completed a few months ago. The road which was quite lengthy compared to other GC roads in the district remained without blacktop for a decade due to budget constraints. The 44-kilometre road connects the gewog with the Gelephu- Sarpang highway.

With the improved road conditions, the residents of Chhuzom Gewog are hoping to start mass cultivation of vegetables.

The weather in the area is favourable to grow vegetables.

Residents said with the travel time reduced, they can easily transport the farm produce to the nearby towns.

“We had a hard time while travelling to the market and visiting the hospital. Now with the blacktopped road, it will reduce the travel time and will be convenient,” said Narayan Subberi, a resident.

“It is convenient as the road is blacktopped. It takes about three hours to reach Gelephu and come back. We can sell the vegetables freshly picked from the fields. It was not possible in the past years due to the lack of proper road connectivity,” said Nandhalal Monger, another resident.

The blacktopping of the 44-kilometre road was contracted to three contractors in 2021 and was scheduled to be completed in 2022.

One contractor completed the work on time but the other two could not complete it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They completed the works a few months ago.

The Indian Government supported the work worth Nu 252 M.
