Meet the cabinet ministers of the fourth democratically elected government

The newly formed government will comprise a total of nine ministries. Four ministers from the west, two each from the south and central and one from the east will head the nine ministries.

65-year-old Gem Tshering from the Dokar_Sharpa constituency in Paro is the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. Before being elected, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bhutan Power Corporation and Pyelbar Lokchey Private Limited. He has a Master of Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

 

 

 

58-year-old DN Dhungyel, from the Phuentshogpelri_Samtse constituency in Samste, is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade. Between 2013 and 2018, he served as the Minister for the then-information and communications ministry. He has a Master of Business Administration from the Prestige Institute of Management Studies and Research in India.

 

 

 

 

Tandin Wangchuk from the Athang_Thedtso constituency in Wangdue Phodrang is the health minister. The 58-year-old served as the health minister from 2013 to 2018 during the second government. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from Hans Raj College, University of Delhi.

 

 

 

 

 

Lekey Dorji from the Bardo_Trong Constituency in Zhemgang is the finance minister. The 54-year-old served as the Minister of Economic Affairs during the second government. He has a Master of Science in Operational Telecommunications Management from the Coventry University in England.

 

 

 

 

Similarly, 44-year-old Younten Phuntsho from the Jomotsangkha_Martshala constituency in Samdrup Jongkhar is the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock. He holds a masterโ€™s in environmental management from Yale University in the United States. Before being elected into the Parliament, he served in government and international organisations for over thirteen years.

 

 

 

 

Likewise, Dimple Thapa, the lone female minister is the Minister of Education and Skills Development. The 43-year-old from Ugyentse_Yoeseltse constituency in Samtse has a Masters in Mountain Forestry from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Austria. Before joining the party, she served in the civil service for about 18 years.

 

 

 

 

Chandra Bdr Gurung from Lhamoi Dzingkha_Tashiding constituency in Dagana is the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport. The 48-year-old worked as an assistant auditor general. He has a masterโ€™s in environmental management and development from theย Australianย National University.

 

 

 

 

Similarly, Tshering from North Thimphu constituency is the Minister of Home Affairs. He has a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communications from Madras University in India. The 41-year-old has worked in media, construction, real estate, and legislation. Tshering won the North Thimphu constituency bye-election by a landslide in 2016.

 

 

 

 

The youngest of them all, Namgyal Dorji is sworn in as the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Employment. The 39-year-old has worked with the Foreign Ministry for 12 years. He has a masterโ€™s in international relations and diplomacy from the Australian National University. He has also served as the First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York.
