The prime minister during the live radio session also said that the Gyalpozhing College of Information and Technology in Monggar is undergoing a major transformation. Since experts from both abroad and within the country frequently visit to facilitate the transformation works of the college, the prime minister said that the college has been temporarily relocated to Kabesa in Thimphu. He added that the move was necessary as the Gyalpozhing College area in Monggar has limited space for renovation work.

Answering questions from the public live on radio, the prime minister said that the college lacked facilities to harness quality learning for students.

The prime minister added that Gyalpozhing College is undergoing a major infrastructure upgrade.

“We have started work to repair buildings. We are currently planning designs. A firm from abroad is working on the re-designing aspect. Traditional drawing plans are done by the College of Science and Technology’s architectural department. Since this cannot be completed in a period of one or two years, we cannot compromise students who are currently studying. Therefore, we have temporarily shifted to Kabesa.”

According to the prime minister, a DeSuung training centre has also been instituted at Gyalpozhing to simultaneously carry out transformation works of the college as well as their training.

The prime minister also added that discussions were held with experts to explore possibilities of either institute a DeSuung training centre, a technology training centre or an ICT institute in Gyalpozhing.

The Gyalpozhing College of Information and Technology was inaugurated in 2017, where 79 students first enrolled in the Bachelor of Computer Application.
