Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk, a Bhutanese actor and environmentalist will be cycling from Bhutan to Nepal in the first phase of his journey to the UN Climate Change Conference or COP 28. He left for Phuentsholing today from Thimphu with Ben Clark, an American filmmaker who will be documenting the entire journey. He will be cycling from Phuentsholing to the Nepali capital, Kathmandu. He will then trek towards the base camp of the Mount Everest where he will collect ice from glaciers brought by a Sherpa from the Everest. The second leg will be from Nepal to Dubai where the COP 28 will take place. Last year, he cycled to 14 districts across Bhutan advocating on climate action.

Jamyang Jamtsho Wangchuk, Climate Advocate

“The whole purpose of this is basically to reiterate the message that Bhutan being a carbon negative country had no role in the climate crisis. We are suffering its consequences and the world needs to come together to address this. But mainly this phase is in preparation for the major leg in the fall.”
