Fuel depot in Paro runs out of fuel

The fuel depot in Paro ran out of petrol at around 10 yesterday morning. People had started queuing up at the depots by 4 p.m.

Our reporter Chimi Dorji says most of the motorists rushed to Thimphu to fuel their cars.

At around 8 in the evening, around 10,000 litres of petrol and 9,000 thousand litres of diesel were brought in from the Dechencholing oil reserve in Thimphu.

The motorists were given the first preference. Those who came with Jerry cans were made to wait much to their annoyance. “We came with Jerry cans because our cars ran out of fuel completely,” they reasoned.

Depot officials said giving out fuel to those who came with Jerry cans would set a precedent. They said they were not sure if it was meant for their cars or if it was to stock up.

It was only after 11 pm that the depot could finish fueling up all the cars.
