The Election Commission has revealed the dates for the National Council elections. The NC poll day has been announced as the 20th of April, 2023. This, the ECB says, is in obedience to the Royal Decree of His Majesty the King issued on Wednesday, last week and in pursuance of section 191 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2008. The commission also released the schedule for the NC elections.

As per the ECB’s notification, the process to select nominees from Gewogs and Dzongkhag Thromdes will begin from 25th February.

The last date for filing of nomination is 13th March.

The NC candidates will begin their election campaigns from the next day which is the 14th of March.

Meanwhile, 15th March has been announced as the last date for registration of postal ballots.

The election campaign fund for the candidates is to be released on 16th March. The day will also be the last date for any candidate to withdraw from the contest.

The candidates shall end their election campaigns at 9AM on 18th of April, two days before the poll day.

People will head to polls on 20th April, and the results will be announced the next day.

The election petition period also begins from 21st of April and will end on 5th May.
