As one of its cost-cutting measures, the Election Commission of Bhutan will discontinue providing voter cards hereafter. Voters will now be required to bring their Citizenship Identity Cards to the polling stations. The move is expected to reduce voters’ hassle of producing more than one voter identification at the polling stations. For the upcoming National Council election, the ECB urges voters who have lost their ID cards or have not processed to process new ones immediately so as to avoid inconveniences. Likewise, those with expired ID cards have been urged to apply for new cards at the earliest.

Phub Dorji, Director, Election Commission of Bhutan
