After Bhutan Oil Distributors raised the freight charges, fuel tankers started transporting fuel from Phuentshogling to Thimphu. Four tankers arrived at Lungtenzampa fuel depot today bringing in over 40,000 litres of petrol and 12,000 litres of diesel.

According to transporters, Bhutan Oil Distributors increased the charges by over Nu 3,000 as an interim measure until the end of June. Earlier, transporters were paid freight charges of about Nu 15,000 to carry fuel to Thimphu and back. Some 30 transporters first stopped transporting fuel on May 1st after the fuel price increased. They said the earlier freight charges were a huge loss.
