Within a month, 70 blocks of the Amochhu temporary shelter in Phuentshogling have been infected with COVID-19. There are 121 blocks in the settlement. Each block has eight households. The temporary shelter has recorded 180 positive cases as of yesterday. There has been a surge in the community cases despite complete lockdown in the town.

While the virus has infected almost every settlement under the thromde area, the majority of the positive cases were detected from the town area and Amochhu temporary shelter. Nearly 1,000 families live in the temporary settlement.

Although the entire settlement is functioning under containment mode, a few blocks from where the positive cases are being detected are cordoned off. A mobile team supplies essential things and medical services in the settlement.

As of yesterday, nearly 70 containment centres, colonies, clusters and buildings under the thromde are marked as red zones. And beginning this month, primary contacts are being home quarantined due to a shortage of facility quarantine centres.

Meanwhile, the 10-day complete lockdown in the town ends tomorrow. The four-day mass screening will start on Wednesday. The mass screening results will decide on further relaxations or restrictions.
