Rumours of COVID positive case in Wamrong is not true

People in Trashigang were alarmed after a rumour about a Wamrong police driver testing positive for COVID-19 spread fast yesterday. The driver was found to have travelled to Trashigang from the Tshelingkhor tri-junction. However, officials have confirmed that the driver did not test positive for now.

According to a source, the driver along with his commanding officer went to pick up DeSuups returning from border duty in Samdrup Jongkhar. They received them at Tshelingkhor and escorted them up to Trashigang on May 6. While at Tshelingkhor, the escort driver from Samdrup Jongkhar transhipped 15 boxes and two bags to the Wamrong escort police’s vehicle to be dropped in a shop in Khaling.

The source shared that the Wamrong police on escort duty dropped the DeSuups directly to Trashigang without having any contacts with the transhipped goods. While returning to Wamrong, the escort driver handed over the boxes and bags to the shop in Khaling. It is learnt that the police escort driver from Samdup Jongkhar who transshipped goods to the Wamrong police escort vehicle at Tshelingkhor tested positive yesterday.

Following the news of the Samdrup Jongkhar escort driver testing positive, seven individuals, age ranging from 3-33 years, who are the families of the escort driver and his commanding officer in Wamrong, were shifted to a facility quarantine yesterday. The shopkeeper in Khaling, who received the goods, is also under strict home quarantine. They all tested negative on the Antigen test on May 6. They will also be tested on the RT-PCR test on May 13, after the seventh day of the probable contact.
