The Umling Dungkhag Court in Sarpang today sentenced the 37-year-old businesswoman, who has breached the mandatory quarantine protocol in November last year, to three months in prison. However, she can pay in lieu of the prison term. She was charged as per section 448 of the Penal Code of Bhutan for breaching public order and tranquillity.

She travelled to Thimphu on November 6 last year. She was quarantined in Thimphu on November 8 after the concerned officials learnt that she travelled without the approval from the Dzongkhag Incident Commandant. According to the verdict, she lied to the health officials in Gelegphu who conducted COVID-19 test that she has the approval.

Gelephu police detained her on November 26 last year.
