Kanglung in need of a proper vegetable shed

The vegetable shed in Kanglung is in need of basic amenities such as toilet and storeroom. The vendors have been using ply boards, zinc sheet and plastics for partition.

The vegetable shed is located in the upper area of Kanglung. Today, there are three vegetable outlets and a meat shop operating from the shed.

However, the shed lacks basic facilities such as toilet and a proper storeroom.  The vendors have been using sheets and ply boards to protect themselves and vegetables from the harsh winter.

“We don’t have a proper toilet and a store,” said Nidup Dorji, a vendor.

“Without a toilet, it is difficult. When our customers ask for the washroom, we have to say that we don’t have a toilet here. We feel hesitant to ask hotel and house owners as well,” said Phub Dem, another vegetable vendor.

Vendors sell both local and imported vegetable products from the shed.

However, for now, the gewog does not have plans to construct these facilities.

“If the government provide us with Nu 6 – 7 M to construct the vegetable shed, we have plenty of areas to construct. But so far we have not received such an amount. Even if our gewog allocates budget, we are crossing our budget ceiling, so we cannot do that,” said the Kanglung Gup, Kinzang Dorji.

The vegetable shed was constructed in 2013.
