As more countries report a wider spread of Coronavirus infections, the number of confirmed cases has now crossed 90 M globally. The virus has claimed the lives of nearly 2 M people worldwide, as per the latest data from the Johns Hopkins University in the US.

According to the analysis by the Johns Hopkins University, it took six weeks for cases to go from 10 to 20 M, but around only two weeks to go from 80 to 90 M.

The United States of America has recorded more than 20 M cases and about 375,000 deaths from Coronavirus, the highest figures in the world.

India comes in second with nearly 10.5 M cases followed by Brazil with more than 8 M cases.

With reports of new COVID-19 variants in the United Kingdom and South Africa rapidly spreading worldwide, countries around the globe are bringing back lockdowns and other restrictions to curb infections.

The World Health Organization has warned that the virus will continue to spread rapidly in the coming months.

The Coronavirus was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in late 2019. The WHO declared a global pandemic on 11th March last year, after the outbreak spread quickly across the globe.
