Considering the huge potential of online learning for students, beginning the 2021 academic year, the education ministry will implement the Learning Management System. The system, which is first of its kind, will focus both on classroom and virtual teaching and learning.

With the sudden shift away from the classroom and the adoption of e-learning due to the pandemic, the system will benefit more than 170,000 students across the country.

According to Education Minister Jai Bir Rai, contact teaching alone is not enough in the 21st century, where teaching and learning are driven by technology. Therefore, the ministry will integrate technology into the student’s learning experience.

‘‘No matter where the students are, this virtual teaching and learning system will give them an experience of a classroom setting,’’ said the minister.

The system will also enable online assessments.

The ministry will initially keep 30 per cent weightage for virtual learning and 70 per cent for classroom learning. However, it can also be implemented in a reverse way, depending on the situation.

The minister added, ”in a similar case scenario as the pandemic in the future, the system will ensure that classroom and virtual education go parallel.’’

The minister further added, there is nothing to worry about, even if the schools shut down. The system will be ready in a month’s time.

Meanwhile, the ministry has put up a proposal to the government to provide tablets to all the students from next year so that the implementation of the Learning Management System in schools does not experience any hiccups.
