The forest fire in Chhubu Gewog of Punakha is finally contained after five days, today. Around 800 acres of the forest is lost to the fire which started on the evening of November 14.

Forest officials, DeSuups, armed force personnel and local volunteers battled the fire day and night.

According to forest officials, there is no report of casualty and damages to private properties so far. Officials suspect illegal wildlife poaching in the area to be the cause of the fire.

The case is being investigated.
