The number of Cordyceps buyers has decreased by a huge margin this year. For instance, in Bumthang where the auction ended just recently, only nine bidders showed up at the auction. Usually, a minimum of 25 bidders take part annually.
Buyers blame the unpredictable international market for Cordyceps this year triggered by the pandemic among other reasons. This is affecting the price of the fungi, which has left many collectors in Bumthang withdrawing from the auction.
