Beautiful, Unique and Sustainable, in short BUS, will be the cornerstone as Haa prepares to host the 6th Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition. According to the district administration, this basis will ensure that the benefits and responsibilities carry on even after the event is over.

Toward achieving the ‘beautiful’ aspect, Haa will undergo a major facelift. And before the exhibition opens in June this year, there will be improved roads, proper footpaths and every space available will turn into a flower garden.

“By ‘unique’, we mean that the exhibition will not be focused on one place as in its past editions. The entire district, starting from Sombaykha Dungkhag to Bji Gewog, will celebrate the event. And by ‘sustainability’, we mean to keep the town like the way it was prepared for the exhibition,” said Kinzang Dorji, the Haa Dzongda.

He said it is important that such an exhibition bring about a lasting transformation of living spaces. And to achieve this, the district administration will pilot beautification auditing after the event.

“We will have to invest a lot of human and capital resources for the Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition. But if we cannot sustain the development it brings, then the investments will go to waste. That is why we will audit the exhibition-related works. We will do it like any other financial auditing,” the Dzongda added.

As of now, 90 per cent of the hardscape works are complete. Sowing of flower seeds are also in the process and will be ready for plantation soon. Similarly, the road widening work is in full swing.
