Bhutan defeated the Maldives 2-1 in the third match of the Men’s Football in the ongoing South Asian Games today. It was a much-needed win for Bhutan to advance to the next round of the competitions after losing to the host nation, Nepal on Tuesday.

Both the teams could not find a goal in the first half of the game. After the halftime whistle, the Dragon boys dominated the game with Chimi Dorji finding the back of the net in the 55th minute and Phub Thinley taking the scoreline to 2-0 in the 84th minute. The Maldives got a consolation goal when they found the Bhutanese net in the stoppage time.

Bhutan will play the last match of the group with Sri Lanka on Saturday. For now, Bhutan is at the top of the table with a total of six points from 3 games followed by the host nation, Nepal.

Similarly, the Men’s Double Tennis team bagged their first bronze medal at the international stage making history for the Bhutan Tennis Federation. The Bhutan Tennis Federation on their Facebook page, yesterday, dubbed the win as “Historical”.

And in Taekwondo, Bhutan won two bronze medals today. The Taekwondo team will return home tomorrow with three bronze medals.
