A Respiratory Disease Clinic (RDC) is inaugurated in the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referal Hospital (JDWNRH) today by the Health Minister Dechen Wangmo.

It’s housed in a structure which is adjacent to the Health Help Centre in the JDWNRH premises.

According to a press release, the main objective is to reduce transmission of tuberculosis, influenza and other acute respiratory illness in the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) through segregation of patients at the entry-point; thereby averting hospital possible acquired outbreaks and infections. The RDC will adopt a system of fast-tracking and triaging patients with respiratory illness depending on the severity of their signs and symptoms.

From today, all patients with respiratory symptoms (irrespective of cough duration) will be directed to the RDC, except for children less than 12 years old. The timing of the clinic will be the same as any other OPDs of JDWNRH.
