From now on, the Thimphu Thromde will be taking stringent actions against those construction owners who are responsible for poor road condition and drainage system because of their carelessness at the periphery of their construction sites. The Thrompon said this is to instill a civic sense and a sense of responsibility.

“Any construction sites you visit they would either damage the footpath or they would encroach onto the road and they would stack all the construction material on the road, they will never respect the public and this is what our attitude is,” says the Thrompon, Kinlay Dorjee.

The Thrompon adds that the Thromde office will not tolerate such irresponsibility. He said they would go to the extent of clearing the materials that has been dumped on the roadside if they don’t repair the damage.

“We will assess what cost it will incur to repair that and then we will bill it to them so that they have to pay that amount before we issue the occupancy certificate. Now, we are really going hard on the occupancy certificate because that is the only catch we have. Without occupancy certificate they will not get electricity and water connection,” says the Thrompon.

Thimphu Thromde is also planning to request the financial institutions not to give loans to the construction owners, who do not possess an occupancy certificate.
