His Holiness the Je Khenpo consecrated Goenpa Kabaap Choeling commonly known as Goenpa Karp at Khoma in Lhuentse on March 16. It took almost four years to complete the major facelift works at the monastery and construct a few new structures.

Monks from Lhuentse Rabdhey, Goenpa Karp and Namdroling Goenzin Dratshang joined His Holiness for the consecration ceremony. Following the ceremony, His Holiness also administered Tshewang, the blessing of longevity, to over a thousand people gathered.

The renovation of the old temple began in 2009 after an earthquake left the structure damaged.

The project also included minor restoration works and construction of a hostel, dining hall, kitchen and Lam’s residence. Over Nu 3 M was invested to complete the project.

Late Lam Choeing Rangdrol, the 16th incarnation of Terton Guru Choewang, is believed to have founded the monastery in the 18th century.

With Chukchi Zhey as the main relic, various religious ceremonies such as tshechu, drupchen and kuchoe are performed at the monastery every year.

The former place for lay monks was transformed into a monastic school and it currently has 13 monks.
