Bhutan Industry Association for Business Process Outsourcing (BIABPO) targets to create 3,000 new jobs for the youths by 2023. This was revealed during the BIABPO launch in Thimphu yesterday. BIABPO is the promotional and coordinating body for the business process outsourcing industry in Bhutan.

At the launch of the BIABPO project in Thimphu Tech Park, the interim president of the project, Graham Gulliver said BIABPO will act as a catalyst for the growth of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry in the country. BPO is a method of subcontracting various office operations to third-party vendors which are set up for the purpose.

“To promote Bhutan as a destination for BPO and direct locator of offshore work and to assist those companies to get established here, so that they can operate the office and employ young Bhutanese to work for them here.”

Over the next four-year, the project targets to create new jobs for youths.

“The primary mission is to create 3,000 jobs by 2023 for young Bhutanese. Jobs will be created which will allow Bhutanese to receive training and skills to work for foreign companies, learn their software and their business practices. At the same time, they will be able to remain here in Bhutan with their friends, families without having to go abroad,” Graham Gulliver said.

The employees will be involved in a range of works associated with computers like data entry, accounting, software development, transcription, database management and many more.

At present, they are looking forward to hiring those who have basic computer skills and good communication skills in English. Once the recruitment is done, all the necessary and relevant trainings will be provided by BIABPO.

The first meeting of the BIABPO founding members and the election of the trustees has been held and the registration of BIABPO with the Civil Society Organization Authority is under process.

Bhutan is the last country to have a BIABPO project after India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines.
