The first snowfall of the year brought cheers on the faces of the people residing in western, central and northern parts of the country. But on the flip side, it has brought vehicular traffic along several passes to a halt.

Traffic at Dochula Pass along Thimphu-Wangdue highway has been closed due to heavy snowfall. Likewise, Chelela Pass along Paro-Haa highway and Yotongla Pass along Trongsa-Bumthang highway are blocked.

However, no block has occured at Thrumshingla Pass as of now, says the Department of Roads (DoR) in Ura, Bumthang. The department’s snow removal crew is at the site.

The Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) in Bumthang cancelled all the scheduled buses leaving for eastern and western parts of the country.

The RSTA office there is monitoring the road conditions so that it can allow buses to travel as and when the weather improves and snow subsides.
