The formation of the Pay Commission is highly likely to happen in January next year. Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering shared the news at Media Meet session in Thimphu on Friday.

“As per the law, we informed His Majesty The King on the formation of the Pay Commission. We will soon receive the Royal Command,” told the Prime Minister to a group of journalists congregated at the first Media Meet session.

The Pay Commission will examine and recommend the government on revision of salaries, allowances and other benefits of the civil servants.

The Finance Minister Namgay Tshering and the Finance Secretary Nim Dorji will take the lead to establish the commission.

“The Pay Commission’s Terms of Reference has been drafted. Knowing that this commission is extremely important in terms of legal perspective, we have included an official from Judiciary as a member. In total, the commission has nine members,” Prime Minister added.

The government, during the recent election, had pledged to increase the salaries of civil servants twice in five years.
