Funded by Bhutan Nuns Foundation- a civil society organisation, a new hostel for nuns of Chodphu Ugyen Phuntsho Chholing Nunnery in Pema Gatshel is in construction stage.

Nuns there are looking forward to speedy completion of the structure. This is because once the hostel is built; they will no more have to live in worn-out huts.

“The huts are in dire need of renovation. We fear strong winds might blow off the roofs. Our living rooms are small,” said one of the nuns, Kunzang Wangmo.

The project is being constructed at the cost of Nu 2.7m. The work started in May 2016 and is expected to be complete in June this year.

Today, the nunnery school has 10 nuns and they perform rituals in Geri and Tephu villages under Nanong Gewog. The nunnery was opened in 1988.
