Thimphu Thromde is working towards executing their plan to relocate the fuel depots in Lungtenzampa and Chubachu.

The Chubachu depot will likely be moved to Samtenling or Dechencholing in North Thimphu, while the Lungtenzampa one is to be moved to Ramtokto or Olakha in South Thimphu.

The relocation is aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the core town area.

“We have three fuel depots located in areas that have high population and car density,” Thrompon Kinlay Dorjee said. “Vehicles line up for fuel, which adds to traffic congestion in the town area.”

But the Thromde is concerned the relocation of Lungtenzampa and Chubachu fuel depots will put the depot in Mothithang under pressure.

“So, I suggested the fuel depot in Chubachu to be shifted to the area near Centenary Farmer’s Market where there is a plant nursery.”

Thrompon Kinlay Dorjee added the Thromde, with support from Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, is discussing the plan with Tashi Commercial Corporation who owns both the fuel depots.
