Trongsa Dzongkhag Court

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) completed presenting its detailed evidences for an alleged land scam case in Trongsa, yesterday.

The case is about illegal land transaction of land that took place over a decade ago. This is the third and final evidence hearing prosecuted by ACC. Earlier in March; the Trongsa Dzongkhag Court was unsatisfied with the evidences and had ordered ACC to resubmit the evidences.

The case concerns alleged fraud and conspiracy behind the registration of 4.703-acre of substitute land at Thumang in Nubi Gewog. The case involves the former Trongsa Dzongda, Lhab Dorji and his wife Karma Tshetim Dolma colluding with the former Drangpon Ugyen Tenzin, former gups of Draagteng and Nubi gewogs, surveyor of the National Land Commission Kelzang Nima, the former dzongkhag surveyor Narayan Dangal, and three villagers.

The alleged incident took place between 2005 and 2006, when the former dzongda was administering land acquisition for the establishment of the erstwhile Institute of Language and Cultural Studies.

The case also includes an alleged fraudulent land transfer by Karma Tshetim Dolma through forging of documents and signature of the owner Gyalmo. The case came under the ACC scanner only in 2011, after Gyalmo lodged complaint to the commission. In her complaint, she stated that she did not sell the land to Karma Tshetim Dolma. The defendants will refute in June after the court accepted their plea for a month and a half’s time.
